Liverpool’s full injury list – Jurgen Klopp stuck with injury crisis

Liverpool injury list

Liverpool have been struck once again with an injury, this time it’s Andy Robertson who joins nine other absentees.

The Reds have had to deal with a long list of injuries so far this season – and we’re only a month into the new campaign. It’s certainly been far from the ideal start.

Even looking at the list below (Anfield Edition) the sheer amount of players who’ve been injured already is extensively long. With Robertson today joining the long list of injuries, it’s time we reviewed the latest reports on Liverpool’s squad and who is available.

There are players who are back from injury who aren’t fully match-fit yet such as Thiago, Arthur Melo and Joel Matip but the list will focus on the players currently out of action.

Liverpool Injury list:

Andy Robertson

The Scotsman is now confirmed to be injured, suffering a knock on his knee which should keep him out until after the international break.

Having played 63 games for Liverpool last year, he also had a very intense year for his country where his side failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar – the injury will give him a chance at least to re-set and go again.

In the meantime, Kostas Tsimikas can deputise and get a chance to show what he’s all about.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

One of the longer-term injuries on the list, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still struggling with a ‘serious‘ hamstring injury suffered in the second preseason game against Crystal Palace back in July.

The midfielder is out of contract next summer and he is unlikely to see many minutes before the mid-season break for the World Cup.

It looks more and more likely that he will leave next summer with Aston Villa as a potential destination.

Naby Keita

There is a small mystery surrounding Naby Keita and his injury; the Guinean international is out with a hamstring issue but has been picked to represent his country in the next set of fixtures.

‘No, I don’t expect [Keita] to go on international duty,’ said Klopp. ‘The expected return date is somewhere in October, that’s why we had to make the decision.

With Ox, it is the same and that’s why the two boys are not in the #UCL squad because of their expected return.’

Keita is another player out of contract at the end of the season and the 27-year-old looks set for a move away given how little impact he has on this team due to his regular and consistent absences.

Jordan Henderson

Captain Jordan Henderson is expected to be out for at least three weeks and will return after the international break, much like Robertson.

His hamstring injury has been reported as a ‘minor strain‘ and whilst he still has hope of playing in the England fixtures, its likely we will see him return on October 1st went they face Brighton.

However, his early season form has done little to convince Jurgen Klopp to start him over Harvey Elliott for example, who’s had a brilliant start.

Ibrahima Konate

Another long-term injury, Ibrahima Konate had battled his way to begin a first-team regular starter at the end of last season, starting in the Champions League final in France.

The French centre-back suffered a knee problem following a collision in the Reds’ friendly defeat to Strasbourg at the end of July, and is not due back until the end of September.

With Liverpool’s back line faltering as it is, they need him back as soon as possible because his pace allows them to defend with a really high line, plus his relationship with Virgil Van Dijk and his threat from set pieces makes him a shoo-in to return to the starting lineup.

Curtis Jones

Youngster Curtis Jones had suffered an injury described as ‘a stress reaction’ in his leg following the 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield in July.

He did return to the bench against Newcastle but has since disappeared again. The club is taking no risks with the 21-year-old and he has no return date set as of right now.

Calvin Ramsay

Another summer signing, Calvin Ramsay is an 18-year-old right-back who starred for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

We still haven’t seen the £4M player on the pitch for Liverpool and Ramsay is yet to train fully with his new team-mates, but travelled with them to their Austrian camp and is understood to be close.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Caoimhin Kelleher is on the verge of a return to the matchday squad – speaking to Liverpool FC on YouTube, Klopp said that Kelleher will be in training after a long injury layoff.

Liverpool’s number two has stepped up to the plate excellently whenever Alisson is unavailable and he only actually played eight games last season.
