A major Premier League rival has declared Liverpool ‘impossible to catch’ this season. With a stellar unbeaten start to the season. The defending champions have found themselves opening up a five-point lead with equal number of games played.

Liverpool are currently the only Premier League club with a perfect record this season. While their rivals have had early slip ups, Liverpool have been ensuring full points through their game play.

Liverpool have secured last minute victories over Bournemouth, Newcastle and Burnley and have also beaten major title rivals Arsenal. Last week’s Merseyside derby win took them to 15 points. They are also on track to beat the current record of 9 wins, set by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in 2005-06.

That year Chelsea went on to win the league by eight points over Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United. Liverpool will certainly be looking to do that come next May.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca feels Liverpool will be impossible to catch after their flawless start to the season. The Reds currently enjoy a seven-point lead over the Blues after just five games.

Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford was their first loss of the season but it left them playing catch up to the defending champions. Currently Arsenal lie five points off the league leaders, while Manchester City find themselves eight behind.

“If they continue in this way I think it is impossible to catch them, not just for us, but for all the clubs. They have been doing a fantastic job since last year, and the players they have decided to buy shows the intention of the club to go again for the Premier League and the Champions League, and that is quite clear.” – Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca

The Reds are trying to defend a first division title for the first time in more than 30 years and are in prime position do that.

Record breaking 21st title awaits

It might to be early to count the chickens, but a successful title defence will help Liverpool achieve history. Currently tied with Manchester United on 20 top flight league wins, a win see them knock their eternal rivals off the perch.

Their transfer business has helped them to a blistering start but expectations remain for them to be competitive across multiple competitions, especially in Europe.
