Liverpool are pressing forward with an attempt to get their hands on a world-class centre-back in the summer transfer window. The Reds have been actively looking to bring in a defender, and it appears they have left Real Madrid behind in the race to sign a top target in the next window.
Virgil van Dijk is set to sign a new deal at Anfield soon, but Liverpool are keen to ensure they bring in his long-term replacement while he is at the club.
The Reds have been linked with an interest in Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, and they are also believed to be considering making a move for Sevilla’s Loic Balde.
However, Liverpool would prefer to sign a Premier League-proven defender, and it has been claimed that they are about to land a top Real Madrid target in the next summer transfer window.

The Reds are set ‘to capitalise’ and land a Real Madrid target

Dean Huijsen recently revealed that he has a £50m release clause in his Bournemouth contract, and he is almost certain to leave in the summer transfer window.
However, journalist David Ornstein revealed in his Q&A for The Athletic that there are no indications that Real Madrid are trying to sign him in the summer.
He admitted Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham have held talks with the defender’s representatives, but indicated that the Reds are known for taking advantage of release clauses, which makes the Merseyside giants the favourites.
“I now understand that Liverpool are among the clubs with a firm interest in Dean Huijsen”, the journalist said.
“This has been reported elsewhere and is accurate. Chelsea have enquired and Arsenal are in the mix, too.
“At the moment, those are perhaps the three leading contenders, but not the only ones, with Newcastle and Tottenham also keen. I believe they have all held meetings or conversations with Huijsen’s camp in the last week, but I’m not aware of offers being made just yet, so the direction of travel remains unclear.
“It has been well documented that Real Madrid held great appeal for Huijsen growing up, and they do like him, but I don’t know of them actively working on it and therefore, at the time of writing, it looks most probable he will join another Premier League club.
“I think there’s a desire on the part of Bournemouth and the player to have this situation decided asap. The £50m release clause makes it a clean and potentially quick deal to do, which we’ve seen Liverpool capitalise on in the past.”
