Liverpool have “a special interest in Kylian Mbappe”

Liverpool have “a special interest to Kylian Mbappe”, says Transfer Window Podcast resident Duncan Castles amid speculation the Frenchman could leave PSG this month.

He says: “Liverpool has a special interest in Kylian Mbappe. He supported Liverpool when he was younger – he likes the way they play football.

“Mbappe has a strong interest in playing in the Premier League at some point in his career. He likes Jurgen Klopp’s management. He has spoken publicly about Liverpool in the past.”

This follows a report from RMC Sport that PSG could sell Mbappe before August 31 but Real Madrid are the only club named.

They report that “two huge obstacles” are in the way of PSG selling – Real Madrid making an offer and that offer being accepted.

However, it is said: “one club has manifested itself in concrete terms in recent weeks and it is English.”

If Castles is accurate and Liverpool are still interested in the 22-year-old, then it’s possible that the Reds are the English club that has made concrete contact over signing the former AS Monaco star.

That said, even if I were to let my imagination run wild, I can’t see how Liverpool can afford a deal to sign the forward when he is reportedly earning €398,000 per week – far more than any other player at Anfield.

That said, after seeing the likes of Lukaku, Grealish and Jadon Sancho join our rivals, if FSG somehow pulled off a signing like Mbappe, I think that would wipe the slate clean for a few years at least!

The Frenchman is an absolute superstar and whoever signs him is getting an incredible player. Real Madrid seems like the most likely destination just purely due to their history of signing the most expensive players in Europe.

That, combined with Liverpool’s inability or refusal to compete financially, and signing someone like Mbappe just seems like an impossibility.
