Liverpool are still nervously waiting on Trent Alexander-Arnold to make up his mind about his future as Real Madrid push to take him to the Spanish capital on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool has turned into a soap opera but the defender has done nothing to calm the fraying nerves of the fans who are wary of losing him in the summer.
He has yet to sign a new contract and there are suggestions that Liverpool have already failed with multiple offers of a new deal to the player and his representatives.
He is one of the biggest success stories of the club’s academy and Liverpool are aware of how damaging it would be to lose a player of his ability on a free transfer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
Real Madrid are lying in wait and while they have already offered him a mega-deal, the club will only make a legal approach for him in January when he will be free to discuss a pre-contract with his continental suitors.
Liverpool remain hopeful of keeping him but more and more voices are coming out each day to suggest that Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid is an inevitability.
‘Why wouldn’t Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid?’ – Liverpool legend.
Mark Lawrenson, a Liverpool legend in his own right, is known for being a straight shooter and he admitted that it is no surprise that Alexander-Arnold is getting linked with Real Madrid.
He doesn’t understand why the defender would not join Real Madrid and get a chance to play alongside one of his closest friends and England teammate Jude Bellingham.
Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?
The former Red insisted that the right-back has won everything at Liverpool and the club will find a way to recover from his loss as they have always done when big players left Anfield in the past.
“The rumour mill about Trent is that he will be joining his mate [Jude Bellingham] at Real Madrid. If you had a chance, why wouldn’t you want to go and play for Real Madrid?”, Lawrenson told the FourFourTwo.
“He’s won everything for Liverpool, so people can’t turn around and say, ‘oh, I can’t believe he’s going, he should stay.’
“He’s been brilliant. Liverpool have lost top players in this particular way before and have always responded.”
