Liverpool given grim Trent Alexander-Arnold contract forecast

Liverpool are yet to sort out a new deal with Trent Alexander-Arnold and the closer he gets to the end of his current deal, the less it seems likely that he will stay.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and Real Madrid are keen to take him to the Spanish capital on a free transfer.

Liverpool have not seen any positive signs to suggest that the defender will sign a new deal and there is a sense of inevitability about him moving to Spain at the end of the season.

Real Madrid have already offered him a mega-deal and the club will make an official approach in January when he will be free to discuss a move with clubs outside England.

The Reds are still pushing to hold on to him but there are signs that their efforts to convince the player are unlikely to bear any fruit in the coming months.

More grim forecast around Trent Alexander-Arnold

Simon Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman, is known for being outspoken and has never been afraid to air his views.

He is not seeing much hope of the Reds holding on to Alexander-Arnold given the way things have been shaping up.

Jordan admitted that Liverpool would want to keep the defender over Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah given his age and what he represents to the club.

However, he is more or less certain that Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season.

“I think Trent Alexader-Arnold will leave and I think they have already pressed forward with that thinking”, Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“He is the one younger player of the three that you have less reasons for you to allow him to leave.

“You wouldn’t want Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave, he is 26 and is coming to the peak of his powers and you wouldn’t want to be in that situation.”

Alexander-Arnold has been one of the biggest success stories to come out of the club’s academy and has won every major honour with the Reds.

Losing him would be deeply unpopular with the fanbase who believe the club’s owners have dropped the ball in these contract negotiations.
