Liverpool ended their first UEFA Champions League game of the season with a win over Diego Simeone’s Atlético de Madrid. The game ended 3-2 as Virgil van Dijk gave the Reds the edge they needed in the final minutes of the match.
Like always, the Merseysiders started strong with Andrew Robertson deflecting Mohamed Salah’s free kick into the net. Salah continued his form by netting back another in just two more minutes.
However, the Liverpool tradition followed as Slot’s men have become notorious for easily losing leads this season. Marcos Llorente didn’t give up as the Spaniard gained one back for the Reds during injury time of the first half.
A volley in the 81st minute followed as Simeone’s men were fighting for a lead in the last 10 minutes of the game. Unfortunately for the Rojiblancos, the lead never came as Van Dijk slotted a header off Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner.
However, the Dutchman’s celebrations weren’t the only scene that caught everyone’s eyes as manager Diego Simone got into a clash with a Reds fan who has been identified as Jonathan Poulter.
In a photo circling through the internet, Poulter seems to be flipping off Diego Simeone as the stewards were trying to control the situation.

During the press conference, Diego Simeone claimed that Liverpool fans had verbally abused him throughout the 90 minutes.
The gaffer also conceded that his reaction was unjustified and he shouldn’t have lost his temper, but also talked about how his humaneness just gave in at the moment.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Merseysiders might face consequences as UEFA holds the respective clubs responsible for the behaviour of their fans.
There can be a fine or, worse, a partial closure of the stadium for two years. The regulations state that any unsporting behaviour from the fans will be the responsibility of the club.
Poulter later released a video calling Diego Simeone names as the Argentinian gaffer didn’t reply to a few media questions. The questions were regarding any racist comments being made by the fans.
This led to Poulter facing scrutiny on social media as everyone started asking the Reds fan if there was any involvement of racist slurs.
Interestingly, Jonathen is a former bannee as the Englishman’s actions in Steven Gerrard’s last Anfield game led to the former missing three years of stadium football.
