Footnote from Paul Joyce reveals that another attacker will follow Sadio Mane out Anfield exit door

Liverpool expect Takumi Minamino to follow Sadio Mane out the Anfield exit door this summer, according to Paul Joyce.

In an article discussing Mane’s move to Bayern Munich and the next steps for Liverpool, the Times journalist included a footnote on Minamino’s future.

It read: “In addition to the departure of Mané, Liverpool also expect Takumi Minamino to leave with Monaco and Lyon interested.”

The Japan international scored 10 goals for the Reds this season.

He also got one assist but it was his clinical finishing that impressed so much.

Despite playing just 1008 minutes for Jurgen Klopp, he averaged a goal or an assist every 91 minutes.

Essentially, Minamino scored a goal for every full game of football he played.

The former RB Salzburg star was crucial in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup trophy wins and will leave Anfield with his head held high.

It was unfortunate that he was competing with the very best forwards in Europe for a starting role otherwise he may have had a longer career with Liverpool.

Selling him isn’t actually in our best interest as he is so good for rotation in the cup tournaments and he even scored a crucial goal against Southampton to help take the Premier League title race to the final day of the season.

Yet, just like Divock Origi, you can’t keep squad players happy forever even if they’re winning silverware.

At 27, Minamino simply has to be playing as much as possible to make the most of his career and I wish him all the best.
