According to Le Parisien, Real Madrid are ready to submit a bid worth €120million (£102m) to sign Kylian Mbappe and Liverpool risk missing out by waiting until next summer.
The report claims that the La Liga giants are looking to take Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu and are ready to launch a massive bid.
They do claim that the forward is expected to sign a new contract at PSG although all the talk in recent months has been that he intends to leave for free.
Of course, Lionel Messi’s arrival may have had a huge impact on his decision making as I said it might do.
Liverpool must act if Mbappe wants to leave
If Mbappe wants to leave, Liverpool must act fast as it would no longer be feasible to wait to sign him when his contract expires in 2022.
Of course, the finances involved are not the type that Liverpool typically involve themselves in and they’d need to relook at their wage structure to sign the French star but he could be worth it.
Last season, he scored 42 goals and assisted 11 in 47 games and I have no doubt that he’d succeed in the Premier League, with 8 goals and 3 assists coming in the Champions League alone.
Could Liverpool afford to sign Mbappe?
Don’t get me wrong, £102million is a lot of money – Liverpool have only spent close to that on Virgil van Dijk and Alisson and only because they recouped 142million from selling Philippe Coutinho – yet Liverpool could afford it.
A lot is written about Liverpool as if they’re broke but that’s far from the truth. I’m sure that the Reds could afford to make a deal like this happen but choose to operate differently to the likes of Chelsea and the Manchester clubs.
However, signing Mbappe should hopefully sway their thinking and break the transfer mould even just this once.
