Liverpool are hoping to pull off a ‘last-ditch’ attempt to secure the services of an experienced £173k-a-week midfielder before the window ends.
The Reds don’t have a lot of time left before the window shuts, but there’s still enough time to move for a midfielder to help combat their midfield issues.
Fans are worried no signings could lead to a season worrying about their injury-prone midfield. With up to nine players out and four of them midfielders – they do have a point.
This is why they will be pleased to see the number of rumours circling around about a potential midfield signing. It’s something Jurgen Klopp eluded to today in his press conference and the latest reports suggest a last-minute move for PSG’s Leandro Paredes.

Latest reports on Paredes and Liverpool’s transfer moves
The Reds don’t have long to move for a midfielder and time is running out as they scramble around their list of targets. They could be prepared to throw caution to the wind, as far as their transfer policy goes, if they are to sign someone in the next week.
Typically, deals involving Liverpool are all pre-planned for months and even years in advance. Moving for Paredes would be a last-minute attempt to secure an experienced, technically gifted midfielder that can influence this team in the present and future.
Manager Jurgen Klopp seemed to hint at work going on behind the scenes in his press conference today, as far as transfers are confirmed.
“You can imagine we are working on these things constantly. It needs to be the right player, we will see if something will happen.”

Could that player be Paredes? According to Calciomercato , Liverpool have set their sights on signing Paredes before the transfer window closes. It has been claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side will make a “last-ditch attempt” to sign the Argentina international.
The rumours of a swap deal with Roberto Firmino are surely untrue, given he still has a role in this squad for what could be the final year of his Liverpool career.
Paredes is also linked with Juventus, who are currently leading the race.
Paredes would be a technical upgrade on everyone bar Thiago in Liverpool’s midfield as his stats show he’s in the 99th percentile for passes and passes completed and the 93rd percentile for assists per 90 and he’s statistically similar to Jorgino, Marcelo Brozovic and João Moutinho.
He’s also a feisty tackler as well, averaging 2.46 tackles per 90 and 1.64 interceptions and Paredes would bring experience, technical quality and calmness in midfield, the likes of which Liverpool don’t possess outside of Thiago.
