Liverpool could get €45M title-winner for free – Bizarre turn of events could see Julian Ward seal surprise transfer

Frenck Kessie

A new midfield target could emerge for Liverpool as a powerful, defensive midfielder worth €45M could be available for free.

Due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial crisis, newly-signed Franck Kessie may be available on a free transfer if the club can’t afford to register him by this weekend.

Signed on a free from AC Milan, the Ivorian has starred in recent seasons as a dominating midfielder, capable of playing in a defensive or box-to-box role.

He could be the dream option for Liverpool to cover their current injury issues in midfield and could work as a player for the future as well.

Could Kessie leave Barcelona already?

Due to their ongoing money troubles, there is a real risk that Kessie and former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen will not be able to be registered in time for the start of La Liga this weekend.

Neither player has been registered and it seems, at the current time, that Barca don’t have the resources to allow them to registered in time.

According to ESPN, if they are not registered prior to Barca’s opening fixture against Rayo, both players could choose to execute a clause that allows them to leave for free.

The Catalan giants may be forced to look to sell more of its assets because the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde are also yet to be registered as well as, Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele who recently signed contract renewals with the club.

Would a move make sense?

Given Liverpool’s injury issues and concerns over an injury-prone midfield – a free transfer of Kessie would be a perfect solution. At 25 he is highly experienced and offers stability in midfield as well as the occasional goal and gives Fabinho a true back-up.

His injury record is exemplary; he’s only missed four games across his whole career and that is a trait Liverpool desperately need from their midfield.

Furthermore, he fits the mould and allows them still target Jude Bellingham next summer.

If Liverpool wanted a quick-fire, low-cost solution to their issues then Kessie could prove to be a dream option. However, who knows if Kessie would return straight to AC Milan, given he only just left them to join Barca.
