Liverpool could be set to be given a mid-season boost thanks to Spain’s manager Luis Enrique not picking one of their star players.
The Spanish national coach’s decision to not select Liverpool’s star man Thiago will mean the 31-year-old is unlikely to feature at the World Cup.
This international break stands as the last chance for any players to prove their worth and solidify a place in the national squad ahead of the World Cup in November.
With Thiago not selected, it stands to reason Enrique will favour the more youthful talents in midfield. Bad news for Spanish fans, but for Liverpool fans, it’s certainly a boost for their hopes this season.

Thiago unlikely to play for Spain in Qatar
According to the international round-up from the Athletic, Thiago now looks certain to miss out on the World Cup after being left out once again by Spain.
He hasn’t played for them since last summer’s Euros and it stands to reason, with his current age, that he will not be picked for the World Cup.
For fans of Liverpool and the Premier League, we know he still has the quality to be a force at the WC this winter, but Enrique clearly doesn’t think so.
It could be his injury record, but, more than likely, he’s happy to favour the young duo of Pedri and Gavi – both of whom are clearly the future of Barcelona and Spain.

Why does that boost Liverpool?
Thiago will get to enjoy a mid-season (or winter) break as the WC takes over world football from late November to December. He’ll be afforded time to recover from any ailments that he will surely have and he’ll return to competitive action for Liverpool rested and refreshed.
Other players will return with more miles on the clock and potential injuries as well as emotional baggage from what is always a dramatic and iconic competition.
He won’t be alone of course, there are plenty of examples of players who will also enjoy a rest from competitive action; one of those happens to be Erling Haaland, who didn’t qualify with Norway and will proceed to terrorise defences with a fresh body and mind when football returns.
For Thiago, and Liverpool, it will prove to be a mid-season boost as the Spaniard has ability like no other in their midfield and the longer he can stay fit and sharp and consistently play – he will help Liverpool return to their brutal best.
