Liverpool fans are witnessing something special as Klopp works magic with Reds

Mohamed Salah.

We’re witnessing something special this season and not just with Mo Salah but the Liverpool team as a whole.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was upset and panicky in the summer when I saw that Liverpool weren’t going to add to their signing of Ibrahima Konate while their rivals were signing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku.

Fast forward a few months and only Chelsea can rival the Reds for their early-season accomplishments.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are second in the Premier League behind the Blues but have won every single Champions League game in the group of death with their recent 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid evidence of the quality in the German’s starting XI.

Mohamed Salah.

Concerns do still exist over the quality of Liverpool’s depth and while it’s virtually impossible to replace Salah or find suitable cover for a forward of his ilk, every Kopite will admit to being terrified of finding out what happens if the Egyptian suffers a serious injury.

This season, he’s only failed to score or assist on one occasion – a 2-0 win over Burnley and he grabbed two more goals against Atleti and while we could be watching Salah achieve another truly special season in Red, it seems as though Liverpool, as a team, could be set for an incredible campaign.

While some journalists found the need to criticise him for poor defending, Naby Keita was fantastic against Atletico Madrid and his first-time volley caught out Jan Oblak – the only goalkeeper on the planet able to lay a glove on Alisson.

Naby Keita.

What impressed me the most against Atletico wasn’t Salah’s impeccable first touch or the energy that Keita played with but the way that Liverpool fought so intensely against a predictably well-drilled and hungry Atletico side.

Antoine Griezmann getting sent off certainly helped but as Klopp said after the game, Diego Simeone’s men played with almost the exact same intensity as they would have if they had 11 players on the pitch.

Liverpool need just one more win to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League and are huge favourites to top their group after winning three out of three group stage games.
