Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt, who has been linked with Liverpool this summer is “close to leaving” Juventus.
A report from last month claimed that de Ligt would sign for Liverpool if they agreed to match his wages worth £200,000 per week.
Unfortunately for the Dutchman, it seems incredibly unlikely that Liverpool would ever pay a centre-back that much to come in and serve as fifth choice.
Virgil van Dijk is always going to be the no.1 centre back at Anfield while Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez do battle for the spot alongside the Dutchman in the starting XI.

At the end of June, a report from Tuttomercatoweb claimed Liverpool are “dreaming” of signing de Ligt to pair him with his compatriot, van Dijk.
From Italy, Corriere Dello Sport reported late last month that Juventus would not consider a a swap deal from Chelsea that included Timo Werner, demanding straight cash.
He has a £107 million release clause in his contract.

The Italian journalist reports that Bayern Munich and Chelsea are expected to “make official bids” for the Dutchman but says there is “no agreement yet.”
He adds that the defender is “close to leaving” though.

If Juventus manage to sell him, de Ligt certainly won’t be on his way to Liverpool, however.
The Reds do not need another central defender but could do with adding another midfielder to reinforce an area of the pitch that was a problem at the start of the 2021/22 season.
