Liverpool appear to be closing in on the signing of world-class midfield operator Thiago Alcantara, with Bild claiming the Reds are €15m off Bayern Munich’s valuation of the 29-year-old.
With the Premier League title in the bag, it doesn’t seem like the Liverpool players are as single-mindedly focused on winning each game as they were before, with just three wins out of seven since the restart.
While fans would have loved to break Manchester City’s 100 point record, it seems as though the players have their minds on a well-deserved break and so fans have now turned their attention to the summer transfer window.
Liverpool’s midfield is functional at best without Naby Keita in the mix and when he is on the pitch, their ability to probe and break down disciplined defences improves drastically.
Now, if you added Thiago to that mix, you’d be presented with an engine room capable not only of keeping opposition attackers at bay but also of supplying the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah with the service their class demands.
Bild reports that Liverpool are €15m shy of Bayern Munich’s €40m valuation of Thiago but with the Bundesliga giants keen to not let the Spaniard enter the final year of his contract, the Reds will be able to bring that valuation down.
Liverpool should also be looking to add more depth to their attacking options while a new left-back would go a long way to ensuring an Andy Robertson injury wouldn’t result in 33-year-old James Milner being shoehorned into playing out of position for a long period of time.
Jurgen Klopp has recently seemed slightly frustrated during press conferences when asked about Liverpool’s transfer plans but only time will tell why that is.
