Jurgen Klopp will regret allowing Chelsea to sign £74m striker unchallenged

Liverpool need a new striker and with Chelsea reportedly chasing Romelu Lukaku, Jurgen Klopp should make sure that the Blues don’t sign him unchallenged.

Inter Milan signed the striker for £74million and he has been sensational ever since.

Roberto Firmino scored just 9 Premier League goals and during an injury-stricken season in which Liverpool needed its attack to carry all hopes of success, the Brazilian failed to pull his weight while Mohamed Salah plundered 22 goals of his own.

This has prompted widespread calls from fans for a new forward to be signed and while it’s likely someone like Patson Daka will come in, signing a world-class striker like Romelu Lukaku would propel Liverpool back into contention to win the Premier League title.

His pace and power would transform the Reds back into one of the best counter-attacking sides in Europe.

In all competitions this season, Lukaku scored 30 goals and assisted 10 which is more than Mohamed Salah’s 31 goals and 6 assists and he finished the season as the club’s most efficient forward.

If they were combined, however, not only would they terrify defences both domestically and in Europe but they would also once again remind Chelsea how their transfer model causes them to miss out on top talents from time to time.

Kevin De Bruyne is another and with the Blues reportedly keen on re-signing Lukaku, it would be negligent from Liverpool to allow one of the most promising sides in England to sign a world-class striker unchallenged.

The player has recently re-committed himself to Inter Milan but with the Italian side in financial peril, would they be able to turn down a huge offer for Lukaku if Liverpool decided to make a move?

Following their Champions League triumph over Manchester United, Chelsea are the ones to watch ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League season and while playing on the counter-attack isn’t the best way to win a championship, new signings could give Thomas Tuchel the tools to tweak his tactics.

Signing Lukaku, who reportedly earns £200,000/week (£10m/year) would make them a truly terrifying side to play against and I think Klopp would be foolish to stand back and watch it happen should Roman Abramovich sanction a move for the former Manchester United striker.
