Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has confirmed Liverpool are interested in West Ham star, Jarrod Bowen, and that he has been under consideration ahead of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool have the deepest attacking depth in the Premier League with the likes of Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah covered by Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.
But Divock Origi is set to join AC Milan this summer and so Liverpool may enter the market for a new forward to replace the talismanic Belgian.
I think he needs to be replaced by a like for like alternative otherwise Jurgen Klopp’s side will lack the ability to play more direct in games where the German’s game plan isn’t going according to plan.
Liverpool need at least one 6ft+ striker otherwise they risk being too predictable but it may be that Origi is replaced by someone like Jarrod Bowen.
While many fans – myself included – questioned the Bowen links before the start of the 2021/22 season, he has proved his worth for West Ham this season.
In all competitions, the £75million-valued forward has scored 16 goals and assisted another 11. He’s had the type of breakthrough campaign we have come to expect from players before they join Liverpool.
The left-footed attacker fits FSG’s transfer profile perfectly as he is 25 and entering his prime which would give Jurgen Klopp the opportunity to develop him into an elite inside forward the same way he did with Mohamed Salah.
Of course, I’m not suggesting that Bowen is on the same level but we’ve seen Klopp take players from being on the verge of something special to the very top.
Luis Diaz is the latest example.
I think many people expected him to be a hit sensation at Liverpool but not many predicted him to star in a Champions League semi-final just three months after joining the club.
That may be in store for Bowen at Liverpool if they pursue their interest in the Hammers star.
According to Fabrizio Romano, he has been on the Reds’ radar for a long time and given that Liverpool like to track their targets for extended periods, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him join the club in the summer.
The Italian told Caught Offside: “Jarrod Bowen continues to impress, and has been a name under consideration on the Liverpool board for a long time now.
“The club have been monitoring him for years, but for the time being there has not been a proposal to West Ham or the player’s agent.
“It’s also clear that Bowen himself is not currently thinking about a move because his focus is to the Europa League and the final part of the season.
“As I said, Liverpool like him a lot. Don’t rule out other clubs getting involved, but for now my understanding is that Man United are not in the race, despite some speculation elsewhere.
“The Red Devils are not in the final player selection process until Erik ten Hag makes final decisions.”
