‘Concrete talks’: Liverpool want to complete second exciting January signing that is ‘attracted’ to Anfield

Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool are working on a late deal to sign Fulham attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho and Fabrizio Romano says the 19-year-old is ‘attracted’ to Anfield.

If signing Luis Diaz for €40million upfront and €20m in add-ons was the main treat for the January transfer window, then Carvalho would be the icing on the cake but time is running out to get the deal over the line.

The Colombian is regarded as the best player in Liga Nos and with 16 goals and 6 assists, he could end the season with a special tally if he can hit the ground running at Liverpool in February.

Luis Diaz

It’s clear that he’s a player that’s going to be someone Jurgen Klopp turns to at times this season to get a result but Carvalho is still a bit green.

That’s not to say he’s not capable of winning the Reds games but he’s not quite ready to be a starter when they’re hunting Manchester City from 9 points down in the Premier League and so a loan back to Fulham makes the most sense for all parties.

According to the Athletic, Liverpool are prepared to pay a £5million fee and loan him back to Fulham for the rest of the season to help with their promotion push.

His contract expires at the end of the season and Fulham are keen to avoid development costs being decided by a tribunal, Anfield Central understands, while Liverpool reportedly want to beat the competition to his signature early.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that the young star is ‘attracted’ by the chance to play for Liverpool as they negotiate with Fulham over the structure of a late move to the northwest of England.

Fabio Carvalho

He reports: “Liverpool are in concrete talks with Fulham for Fabio Carvalho. Not agreed yet – structure of potential deal to be discussed in the coming hours.

“First called by Vinny O’Connor. Fabio Carvalho’s attracted by this chance – Liverpool consider him ‘top one for the future’.”

Vinny O’Connor reported on Liverpool’s talks with Fulham first as news broke on Sunday that the Reds were ‘trying to sign’ the 19-year-old from the Cottagers and they now face a race against time to get a deal in place before the 11pm deadline this evening.
