Liverpool are “not desperate” but Fabrizio Romano says there is “contact with agents, contact with clubs”

Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this summer transfer window but despite the lack of activity, Fabrizio Romano remains optimistic that the Reds will still add to their squad.

With just 11 days remaining before the close of the transfer market, the Reds are under pressure to get any potential deals done.

Arne Slot won his first game in charge of his new team with a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on the opening day of the season thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

While the free-flowing attacking football on display was certainly encouraging, there remain doubts over whether the squad has enough firepower to sustain a challenge for silverware this term.

Fabrizio Romano believes Liverpool could still get new signings done

According to the Italian journalist, Liverpool are in contact with agents and clubs over potential new signings but they are “not desperate” to get business done this month.

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Romano said: “I think it’s still an open situation at Liverpool [for transfers]. I would not rule out Liverpool going in the market. They always keep repeating in public and private that they will only invest in players if they are 100% convinced.

“Otherwise they believe they have a very good squad full of talented players for the future. Liverpool are not desperate to sign players, but movement is still there in terms of contact with agents, contact with clubs.

“So Liverpool are still moving. In case there will be opportunities in the final two weeks, I still expect Liverpool to do something on the market.”

Liverpool have a history of not bowing to external pressure

At this stage in the summer transfer window, it would not be very surprising if Liverpool do not make any signings this month.

The Merseysiders have become one of the most notorious clubs to negotiate with in Europe due to their hardball stance. Even when they actually do desperately need new signings, they very rarely break their transfer strategy.

And so, with Slot just getting his tenure as Liverpool coach underway, it would be quite something if he can make a success of this campaign without adding to his squad.
