A short update: Fabrizio Romano reports that “Liverpool are confident to find a solution with Fulham.”
The attacking midfielder was ever so close to joining the Reds on the final day of the winter transfer window but Liverpool simply didn’t have enough time to complete the paperwork.
However, there is hope that the two clubs can find a “solution” to arrange for the 19-year-old to move to Anfield permanently in the summer when his contract expires at Craven Cottage.
Liverpool are “confident” they can “find a solution” to sign Carvalho
While Michael Edwards and Julian Ward may not have secured an agreement to sign the attacking midfielder before sending him back to Fulham on loan, local journalists seem to have reached a consensus that a deal will still be agreed.
I mean, the player completed a medical and the two clubs agreed on a £8m (€6.68m) fee so it came ever so close to being done.
Fabrizio Romano reports that both clubs are keen to avoid a tribunal deciding a fee at the end of the season.
He reports on Twitter: “Liverpool are confident to find a solution with Fulham for Fabio Carvalho deal to be completed in June – best way to avoid tribunal and proceed with same conditions in the summer.
“Medical done in Liverpool yesterday. Carvalho and agents side also keen on this solution.”
Harvey Elliott should be an example of potential first-team progression
If Carvalho has any doubts at all with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund said to be interested, Harvey Elliott’s progression at Liverpool should be an example for how the young Fulham star could also progress under Jurgen Klopp.
The two teenagers share similarities with the obvious being their Craven Cottage link but also their silky play styles.
They both love carrying the ball and are more than capable of taking one or two players one and playing a killer pass and in Carvalho’s case, he has the ability to score inside the area.
Technical players are often wary of moving to the much more Premier League where there are no guarantees of success.
However, that’s why it’s so promising that he is shining in the Championship.
Of course, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee he will translate his form to England’s top flight but it’s certainly one positive indication and Elliott has shown that young playmakers in the Championship can make the step up to the Premier League.
Carvalho has 7 goals and 4 assists this season for Fulham and although he is not yet a Red, he could be by the summer.
