Liverpool have made moves early before the transfer window that have sent shockwaves across the market. However, they are not having their way in everything, as Chelsea seem to be pushing towards stealing a key target from the Merseyside giants.
The Reds are closing in on a deal to sign Florian Wirtz, which would end up shattering the club and the Premier League’s transfer records in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool have also sewn up a deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong, and it seems the Reds are going to be completely unstoppable in the transfer market this summer.
However, they are not succeeding in all their moves, and Chelsea are now accelerating their efforts to sign a player the Reds have been considering signing since last year.

Chelsea press hard to sign a top Reds target

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi since last summer, but feel this is the time to sign him, given his current contract only has a year left.
Palace are expected to sell for a fee of £40m, but Liverpool are already facing stiff competition from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.
However, it is only going to get tougher, as, according to former scout Mick Brown, Chelsea want their former academy product back at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are in the market for a defender and are set to accelerate their efforts to sign Guehi as soon as they confirm Champions League football for next season.
“I know Chelsea have been looking at him as one of their top targets at centre-back”, Brown told Football Insider.
“Obviously, he came through their academy, so they know him well.
“He would be a calming and stable influence, which they haven’t currently got in their back line.
“So if they get into the Champions League, which is their main focus for now, I expect they’ll step up their efforts to bring him in.
“They’re not the only ones interested, though, so they might have to move quickly.”
