Liverpool are still yet to sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum but Monday’s edition of Marca could bring a major update on that front.
The Spanish news outlet claims that Liverpool, as well as Chelsea, have been in dialogue with Saul’s agents, ICM Stellar Sports, over a move this summer.
Marca also says that a €50m bid from Man Utd is expected which means that if Liverpool and Chelsea are going to stand a chance, they need to catch a wake-up.
For the Reds, they need to start getting their transfers done if they want them to be done before the first game of the Premier League season starts.
The new season kicks off on the 14th of August which gives them less than three weeks to get their affairs in order.
While a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum is most definitely needed, I personally think that signing a striker is more important.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita looking as though they’re fitter than ever, Liverpool’s midfield options aren’t as bad as first thought.
However, if Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino struggle for form as they did last season then Mohamed Salah needs support.
Diogo Jota is back in pre-season but he’s better off the left-wing and what Liverpool really needs is a new centre forward.
That all said, Liverpool Football Club have surprised us so many times by sneakily working behind the scenes, using journalists to disseminate fake news before a signing develops rapidly and is announced out of the blue.
We can only hope that the transfers that Edwards is working on add significant quality to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
If the German is given the quality he needs, we could see more silverware return to Anfield…
