Liverpool agree shock £200k-a-week deal for rising midfield star

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a shock £200k-a-week deal with a rising midfield star, setting the stage for one of the most talked-about signings of the summer. The surprise move signals the club’s commitment to investing in future stars, with Arne Slot keen to build a dynamic new engine room at Anfield.

The Merseyside giants have been clear about one thing since winning the Premier League last season – they do not want to stand still and rest on their laurels.

Sporting director Richard Hughes and his recruitment team have done a stellar job in identifying targets and meticulously going about their business.

Liverpool are now on the cusp of welcoming a new signing, which would signal a dramatic shift in their transfer policy, but without breaking their wage structure.

The Reds agree contract for a top star without breaking their wage structure

Florian Wirtz is expected to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of the transfer this week as Liverpool wait to complete a British record transfer fee.

Liverpool have agreed to pay an upfront fee of £100m and are committed to paying another £16m in add-ons based on his performances at Anfield.

However, Hughes has pulled off a stunner when it comes to the contract Wirtz is set to sign in the coming days.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the German has agreed to sign a contract worth £200,000 per week.

He will be the third-highest-paid player at Liverpool behind Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, but will only be earning half of what Salah is earning right now.

As things stand, there are more than 20 players in the Premier League who will be earning more than Wirtz next season.

Liverpool have managed to maintain their wage structure while signing the most in-demand number 10 in the world.
