Leicester City have confirmed the departure of ten senior players at the end of the current season, as the club undergoes a significant squad overhaul following their relegation to League One.
The Foxes released an official statement naming the players who will leave when their contracts expire this summer, marking a dramatic reset for the East Midlands club.
Among the most high-profile departures is club captain Ricardo Pereira, who made 220 appearances across eight seasons after joining from Porto in the summer of 2018.
The statement read: “We can confirm that 10 Men’s First Team players will depart Leicester City Football Club upon the expiration of their contracts this summer.”
Strikers Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew are also set to leave, along with defender Jamaal Lascelles and Academy graduate Wanya Marçal at the end of the season.
Lascelles only joined Leicester in January, departing Newcastle United after 12 years at St James’ Park where he captained the Magpies to a Championship title.
His stint at the King Power Stadium lasted just months before the club decided to move on, leaving the experienced centre-back searching for a new club this summer.
The club’s statement also addressed the situation of veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, whose contract is due to expire but who remains in talks over a potential extension.
The statement noted that Begovic “remains in discussions with us about the possibility of extending his stay at King Power Stadium,” suggesting his future has not yet been decided.
Leicester’s relegation to League One triggered the need for substantial changes to the squad, with the club clearly prioritising a full rebuild over continuity heading into the third tier.
Lascelles, 32, now enters the free transfer market having accumulated significant top-flight experience during his long tenure anchoring the Newcastle defensive line across multiple seasons.
The departures of Pereira, Daka, Ayew, and Lascelles represent a considerable reduction in wage commitments as Leicester adjust their financial structure to reflect life in League One.
