Klopp’s gem is on the brink of mind-boggling Liverpool record – Anfield greatness is beckoning

Mohamed Salah's contract extension

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been a revelation since rejoining the Premier League in 2017.

The former Roma and Chelsea forward has won three Premier League Golden Boots and one Premier League title in five seasons with the Reds.

Now Salah, 30, has the chance to etch his name into the Liverpool history books by breaking an incredible goal record.

The Egyptian is on the brink of becoming Liverpool’s highest-ever goalscorer in the Premier League era – the forward only has 11 goals left to secure the record.

The record in sight

Salah will be hoping to secure the record this season and it’s likely he will do so; he has never scored less than 19 goals in a Premier League season.

He currently has 118 goals in 180 games for Liverpool, with only Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler ahead of him.

Firstly, he needs three goals to beat Gerrard’s total and then he can work towards Fowler’s total.

Currently, Salah has played 86 fewer games than Fowler and whenever he beats that record – it’ll be done with plenty of games in hand on these former Liverpool legends.

The current top goalscorers list in the PL era for Liverpool looks like this:

  • 1st – Robbie Fowler (128) in 266 games
  • 2nd – Steven Gerrard (120) in 504 games
  • 3rd – Mohamed Salah (118) in 180 games
  • 4th – Michael Owen (118) in 216 games
  • 5th – Sadio Mané (90) in 196 games

In terms of the all-time goalscorers in the Premier League era, that list is led by Alan Shearer with 260 goals.

Salah currently sits joint 20th with Gerrard on 120 goals (including the two scored for Chelsea)

There are only two players above Salah who are still currently playing in the PL – with Jamie Vardy on 133 goals in 14th place and Harry Kane in 5th place on 183 goals.

If Salah continues his average return of around 23 goals a season until the end of his deal in 2025, he’ll finish comfortably in the top five goalscorers in PL history – it’s certainly not out of the question…
