Jurgen Klopp NOT authorised to make January signings amid injury crisis

Jurgen Klopp has been told by Fenway Sports Group that he is unable to make signings this winter despite injuries to key players, Anfield Central has been told.

With injuries to the likes of van Dijk, Thiago, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson amongst others, Klopp told reporters: “Without these players [Academy graduates], we would have been lost, to be honest. Thank God it turned out the way it did.”

And now, with Joel Matip suffering his second injury of the season after he picked up a back problem against Fulham, Klopp is left without a single senior centre back and will need to pray that Fabinho remains fit.

According to sources close to Anfield Central, Liverpool will be inactive in January after Klopp was told by FSG that there aren’t any funds available to make any emergency signings to deal with the sheer number of players that are currently injured.

A centre-back is a priority with Dayot Upamecano one of the most attractive options for the Reds as we disclosed last month.

Had RB Leipzig been ejected from the Champions League group stages, agreeing a deal with the Bundesliga side would have been easier but Michael Edwards is no stranger to identifying talented alternatives as we have seen time after time.

Liverpool kicked off their title defence with a thrilling 4-3 win over newly-promoted Leeds United as Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick at home. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY FREE PRESS JOURNAL.

With just two weeks remaining before the January window opens, Klopp will need to pray for a miracle to get his side through January and February with his side’s season intact.

Before then, the Reds will need to navigate tricky fixtures against the likes of Spurs, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Brom.
