After being asked about playing Trent Alexander-Arnold in central midfield in the future, Jurgen Klopp put the debate to bed by asking the journalist how he could become more influential than he already is.
Alexander-Arnold played in midfield for England during the international break and it prompted speculation among pundits, journalists and fans that he could one day play for Liverpool.
However, Klopp has seemingly ended all speculation and has labelled the 22-year-old the best right back on the planet.
He said: “Why would you make the best right-back in the world a midfielder?”
When prompted for further explanation, Klopp added: “If you watch our games, his position has already changed so there is no need to make him a midfielder. Good players play everywhere, Trent plays right-wing, everywhere. He can play midfield. He is more a 6 than an 8.”
Last season was a bit different as the German had so many injury issues that it felt like he had a different squad every week but now that he has his squad fully fit bar injuries to Minamino and Firmino, Trent is once again bombing forward.
This means he has Matip and Jordan Henderson covering him and can return to his role as Liverpool’s quarterback and it should see Diogo Jota benefit in particular as the Portuguese has found his role as the side’s striker quite comfortable recently.
With Firmino set to miss Liverpool’s clash against Leeds due to a combination of injury and FIFA’s ban Brazil ban, the Reds will rely on Jota for goals and I have a sneaky suspicion he and Trent will combine to help the away side to a win.
Before he was dropped for the Chelsea game, Jota had two goals in his first two starts of the campaign and he can make it three in three against Marcelo Bielsa’s men on Sunday.
