Liverpool’s last three games in Europe have come against Milan clubs, with two of them coming at San Siro and Jürgen Klopp has admitted he “really likes” AC Milan’s project.
The Rossoneri won a massive game at the weekend to go top of Serie A, beating Napoli 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Olivier Giroud and after being absent from Europe for several years, they were back in the Champions League this season.
When asked about both Milan clubs, having faced both and having overcome both, Klopp replied candidly: “Really good, really good. Both teams [are] really good.
“[They have] different set-up[s]. I think I said after the games against [AC] Milan, I really like the project there, this kind of mix with young players and all these kind of things. I like how they approach the games, the way they play.”
Liverpool have been heavily linked with one AC Milan star, Franck Kessie, and were said to be prepared to pay €30million (£25.4m) as a signing on bonus to attract him to Anfield as a free agent.
Kessie, who is worth €51m (£43m), has less than three months remaining on his deal with Milan and will be free to leave in the summer.
Liverpool are sure to be one of the clubs keeping a close eye on his situation as they are still yet to sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum after his contract expired at the end of last season.
Klopp has done well this season as he’s had to cope with constant injuries to Thiago, he had to deal without Naby Keita for a month, Curtis Jones missed a large portion of the start of the season and while he hasn’t been injured, Jordan Henderson has battled with form at times.
Fortunately, Trent Alexander-Arnold steps into midfield whenever Liverpool are on the ball and as Rio Ferdinand pointed out after the Reds confirmed safe passage into the Champions League quarterfinals, the Scouser is like a false 10 or a false 8 at times.
Even if Kessie isn’t who Liverpool need or who they’re looking at, I hope they’re at least identifying the right player to come in this summer.
