Julian Ward could pull off €122M masterclass before end of the transfer window after Naby Keita injury blow

Naby Keita

Liverpool are currently sweating on the fitness of Naby Keita after reports claim his injury sustained is ‘genuine’ and could be serious.

The Reds were without him for the 2-1 loss to Manchester United last night, despite the midfielder training all week.

His injury was late into the week and now the club is sweating over his fitness amidst their injury crisis.

Surely this means the club will loosen the purse strings and allow the club to move for a midfielder to help them combat their awful start to the new season.

Latest news on Naby Keita

According to Neil Jones at GOAL, Keita’s latest injury is a genuine one, and there is concern about the severity.

Manager Jurgen Klopp told Sky: “As a manager, I’d like to have more players who are available, naturally”. The German manager is in the market for another midfielder following the Keita news.

However, because of Liverpool’s previous transfer stance this summer – there have been no concrete links to signing a midfielder – apart from Jude Bellingham which can’t happen until next summer.

With the fans seemingly giving up on Keita, the Reds can use this opportunity to bring in a top-class midfielder to help bolster them for the present and future.

Potential options in midfield

Liverpool have dismissed most of their reported links this summer but with their current situation, they may have to re-visit their planned targets.

Fans can feel relaxed knowing Julian Ward, Liverpool’s sporting director, has delivered on transfers so far having taken over from Michael Edwards.

Klopp claimed: We’re always working on it. But whether we can do something, I don’t know.”

Liverpool will obviously look to sign someone who is available, fits their system and is the right personality profile for this team.

Given how late it is in the window, they may have to pay slightly more depending on who the target is.

Signing Jude Bellingham, which would be a masterclass from Edwards, would require the Reds to pay more than €122M (£103M).

Rest assured, if Liverpool do move for someone then you can place your faith in Ward and Klopp to identify the right player to come in.
