New Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann wants Georginio Wijnaldum this summer and has requested enquiries be made over his plans for next season.
Sources close to Anfield Central have learnt that the current RB Leipzig manager is a huge fan of the Dutchman.
The contract offer that is on the table from Liverpool is expected to be left there as the 30-year-old’s time at Anfield slowly draws to a close. His time remaining in the Premier League is now being counted in days and not months, with his deal expiring in 62 days.
Barcelona are the favourites to sign him with compatriot Ronald Koeman in charge of the Catalonians. Wijnaldum has also received an offer from Inter Milan and while he is impressed by Antonio Conte’s dynamic side, he rejected them.
PSG, Bayern and Juventus have all previously expressed interest but were put off by his wage demands. Now, however, with Nagelsmann insisting that the Liverpool midfielder is a player he wants, the Bavarian club will take a second look. He currently earns £90,000 per week but wants over double.
Wijnaldum’s representation is yet to receive an approach from Bayern but with Nagelsmann’s appointment made official this week, work will now begin to assemble the team he feels will be able to deliver on his demands.
On paper, Wijnaldum seems like a good fit for Nagelsmann. His energy, tight control and experience are all things that the 33-year-old manager has identified as key attributes as he looks to succeed with the Bundesliga side.
