Jurgen Klopp could sign the new Casemiro after midfielder admits: “Liverpool is a team I would play for”

Joao Gomes

Liverpool fans have constantly remarked this season that it’s far too easy for teams to cut through the Reds’ midfield.

The summer transfer window was dominated by calls for a new midfielder to be signed and the interest was there.

Liverpool failed to sign Aurelien Tchouameni before he joined Real Madrid and they also wanted Jude Bellingham.

Manchester City technically prevented the Englishman from joining Liverpool as Borussia Dortmund refused to part ways with another key player after Erling Haaland was allowed to move to the Premier League.

Looking ahead to the winter and transfer windows, there will be opportunities to get the right midfielders in and it stands to reason that Liverpool may need to sign a few.

James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all in the final year of their respective contracts and it doesn’t seem likely that an extension is on the way for any of them.

Jordan Henderson and Thiago are also ageing and the former has been incredibly inconsistent this season.

New blood is needed in central midfield and it seems as though there is interest in a player that has publicly made his love for Liverpool known.

“Liverpool is a team I would play for”

Enter Joao Gomes.

Joao Gomes

The 21-year-old plays his football for Flamengo and could be a very useful option for the Reds.

According to Spanish outlet, SPORT, Liverpool are competing with the likes of Real Madrid for his signature. Flamengo are also already looking for a replacement which further suggests the young midfielder could be ready to leave Brazil and take his career to the next level in Europe.

“I look at Thiago Alcantara,” Gomes recently said.

And if you look at the video embedded below, it’s easy to see why.

Not only are they similar in the way they run and possess similar builds but Gomes is also an incredibly combative and technical player.

There’s no reason to suggest that he will be as good as the Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool great but he’s certainly an exciting player and seems to be well-suited to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Speaking to ESPN, the Brazilian revealed that he would love to play for Liverpool and wants to compete in the Champions League.

He said: “Liverpool is a team I would play for.

“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream. My biggest dream in football.”

It’s unclear how much he would cost but even just having had an initial look at him, he is certainly someone I would like to see join Liverpool.
