LFC held talks with €50m speedster’s agent in the summer; should act now as Carragher urges LFC to sign ‘next Mane’

Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool need to bring in the next Sadio Mane as the 29-year-old is really battling at the moment although he was much better against Chelsea.

The relief was evident on Mane’s face and you could see the tension leave his body when he rounded Edouard Mendy to thrash the ball home at Stamford Bridge after capitalising on Trevor Chalobah’s mistake.

The former Southampton winger had gone 9 games without a goal in the buildup to the 2-2 draw with the Blues but he ended the goalless streak by opening the scoring although he needs backup.

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool need to sign the next Sadio Mane

“He has been an absolute revelation since he came to the club,” Carragher told Sky Sports (02/01/22 at 4:10 pm).

“I was really worried about watching him last season. Then, at the start of this season, he was back to his best.

“The problem for Liverpool I feel with someone like Sadio Mane, no matter how poorly he plays, they still put him in the team because they don’t have the back-up that other teams have.

“I think that’s maybe the next step for Liverpool. Maybe in the summer, to bring in the next Mane. To really put pressure on his position for next season and if he goes through a (bad) run, then you have someone who can step in.”

Liverpool can reportedly sign the next Sadio Mane for €50million

Jeremy Doku has been on Liverpool’s radar since he was just 16 but he will be 20 in the summer and it could be the perfect time to sign him to get the best out of Mane and to help the Belgian prodigy learn from one of the best in the game.

In the summer, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that talks had been held for Doku and that he would cost the Reds in the region of €50million (£42.7m) but his injury record this season may be slight cause for concern.

He’s never missed any football due to injury until this season but he’s had a hamstring and knee injury with the former ruling him out for 9 games while the latter saw him miss 6 matches.

As a result, he only has 1 goal in 6 Ligue 1 games this season but last season he got 4 goals and 8 assists which is fantastic for an 18-year-old.

There are certainly other options out there and Jurgen Klopp could consider one of the five I had a look at recently.
