‘Big boost’: James Pearce confirms huge triple injury boost ahead of Inter Milan clash

Thiago Alcantara - Liverpool.

James Pearce has confirmed that Jurgen Klopp has welcomed Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino back to full team training.

Liverpool are looking to book their place in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League after they reached the same stage of the FA Cup just days after winning the Carabao Cup final.

Jurgen Klopp and his players have admitted that they want to win every trophy that’s available and with the Premier League once again looking like an achievable prize, it’s great to see that Liverpool have close to a full complement of players available.

Speaking at his pre-Inter Milan press conference, with the Italians set to travel to Anfield in a bid to overcome the 2-0 aggregate score, Jurgen Klopp provided an update on his squad’s fitness.

The boss said: “I think all trained yesterday fully. I’m not sure yet what we make of that exactly, to be honest, because we have to see how they react.

“So, Thiago was only a week out, probably will be fine but we have to wait for it. Joel was only three or four days I think, so he is fine, I would say.

Roberto Firmino

“With Bobby, it was longer out, it was [his] first session, so we have to see if we have to stress that or if it makes probably sense to give him just a few more days with proper training.

“Because we obviously don’t train properly today, it’s a minus-one session, it’s tactical stuff, not high intensity and Bobby might need something else. We will see that.

“But they are all in training.”

Thiago’s return is one that fans will be most happy about but it must be said that it does feel like a matter of time until his next setback. It’s not the player’s fault either but he has been held back massively by injury this season.

Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino are also, in my opinion, unlikely to be risked given the advantage that Liverpool have going into the game and given the quality of their deputies, there is no need to rush them back in any case.

Ibrahima Konate is more than capable of stepping in and playing to as high a standard as Matip while Klopp can choose between Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota upfront in Firmino’s role.

Both players have 12 Premier League goals this season and are ranked joint second for goals scored in the league. Only Mohamed Salah (19) has more.
