Liverpool are not in talks to sign Matheus Nunes, according to James Pearce and Fabrizio Romano, with reports suggesting the Reds are moving forward to sign him.
The topic of signing a new midfielder has been on all fans’ lips at one point or another this summer despite Fabio Carvalho arriving from Fulham for £5M.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder has been very impressive in pre-season and has heightened my excitement for the start of the Premier League season.
He was simply fantastic against RB Leipzig as Liverpool ran out 5-0 winners in their third pre-season friendly of the summer while 17-year-old Stefan Bajcetic was a revelation.

Reports claim Liverpool readying a bid and things are “moving forward”
There has been a groundswell of reports in the last week that have suggested Liverpool are seriously interested in adding Matheus Nunes to their squad this summer.
The 23-year-old was fantastic last season for Sporting Lisbon and although Liverpool could do with adding another midfielder to their ranks, an RCM is needed while Nunes is most familiar with an LCM role.
Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliott and James Milner are Klopp’s options on the right-hand side of his engine room while Thiago, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita are the options on the left.
Adding Nunes would only mean Curtis Jones’ game time would be more limited.
According to Ekrem Konur, Liverpool are preparing to make an offer to sign Nunes who is valued at €59M (£51M) while journalist Matt Smith claims “things are moving forward.”

This may not be the case with both Fabrizio Romano and James Pearce completely contradicting these claims.
Talk of Liverpool bid for Nunes “is nonsense”
The Athletic’s James Pearce claims that reports of a bid for Nunes – which I have not been able to find only suggestions one could come soon – are “nonsense”.
He adds that Liverpool’s stance on signing another player this summer is “unchanged” and there are “no plans to strengthen in midfield”.
Told that talk of #LFC bidding for Sporting’s Matheus Nunes is nonsense. Club’s stance unchanged regarding summer business. No plans to strengthen midfield further in this window.

Romano, also reporting via Twitter, states that Liverpool are not in negotiations and have not made a bid for Nunes. He also states that “nothing has changed”.
He continued by stating Liverpool asked Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in June but the Bundesliga side considers their teenager to be “untouchable” in the transfer market this summer.
No bid or negotiations for Matheus Nunes to Liverpool, as things stand. Nothing has changed aroud this deal. 🔴❌ #LFC
Liverpool asked for Jude Bellingham in June, but it was impossible deal – not even a negotiation, as Dortmund consider him ‘untouchable’ this summer.
