“It would take a sizeable fee to turn Liverpool’s head”: Reds tipped to demand major fee for sale of skilled dribbler

Liverpool Curtis Jones

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has backed Liverpool to utilise young star Curtis Jones in their squad next season.

The 21-year-old has been part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad for the last two seasons and is currently a squad player.

He finds himself down the pecking order in central midfield but still managed to feature 27 times last season.

Robinson has backed him to get ‘plenty of minutes’ this season and Jones is looking to build on the one goal and four assists he achieved last season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson claimed: “It is the right decision to keep him.

“Whether that is the best decision for the player or not only time will tell.”

He added: “It is quite clear that Liverpool are not going to sign any more midfielders in this window so I’d expect him to get more game time next season.”

With Bellingham the target for next summer, Liverpool need all hands on deck in midfield after playing the most club games of any team in Europe last season.

Robinson also backed Jones to feature more than ‘he ever has done’ as he believes Liverpool will back the homegrown talent in the upcoming season.

He continued: “It is now more of a squad game than ever. Jones will get his game time and his opportunity. He is a player who the manager likes.

“It would take a sizeable fee to turn Liverpool’s head. It doesn’t look like another midfielder is coming in so why would you sell one of your best young players who plays in that position.

“I expect Jones to start more games than he ever has done. He has an opportunity to show the manager what he can do this year.”

Despite being only 21 years old, Jones has been around the first team since the start of the 2019/20 season.

Klopp is clearly a big fan of the young player, as he was quoted praising the young midfielder back in January on the Liverpool FC website: “He is young, very young. But how I see, his potential is incredible. We both together have to find a way to show that much more often.”

With Liverpool’s senior midfielders having to deal with the niggles that come with age and years as a professional, Jones might find himself featuring more regularly than ever.
