“If it wasn’t for Liverpool…” Ian Wright claims the Reds have saved the Premier League from being a “procession”

Ian Wright

Liverpool are the Premier League’s saviours, according to former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

He claims that they’ve saved the league in recent years.

Manchester City have won four out of the last five league titles under Pep Guardiola and have threatened to monopolise the league title.

The Reds are the only side to beat City to the title since 2017 and have been the only team who could stand up to their frightening quality.

Wright has spoken out on the league and how Liverpool are perhaps the saviours of the PL in recent years.

Ian Wright on Liverpool

Speaking at an Off The Ball live event, Wright claimed that the Premier League has been saved from the inevitable dominance of City by Klopp’s Reds.

The PL legend revealed his claim in a rather humorous way as he detailed their achievements in recent years.

“I thought Fulham were amazing on the first day, putting the pressure on Liverpool and the reason why they did that was because Liverpool have chased down a Man City team that are imperious – if it wasn’t for Liverpool then this f******* league would be s***

“Simply because they’ve beaten on two occasions by one point, if it wasn’t for Liverpool then it would be a procession.”

Can Liverpool stop City?

The Reds have begun their season in an unfamiliar fashion, dropping points against Fulham and Crystal Palace to fall five points behind their title rivals.

They head to Old Trafford tonight looking to fire their season into life and reduce the gap to City to just two points.

Manchester United have been in woeful form and are looking to avoid three straight defeats for the first time at the start of a PL season.

With Erling Haaland making a flying start to life in English football, it may be difficult for the Reds to battle against their rivals but a 3-3 draw with Newcastle yesterday showed that the league will continue to be highly competitive all the way to the end of the season.

A win against United is essential and it could jumpstart their stuttering start to the season so far.
