The Bundesliga expert claims that a break that RB Leipzig gave their players last week gave Konate the chance to ‘have very close talks and negotiations’ with Liverpool.
Speaking to Bild, via Sport Witness’ Tom Coast, Falk claimed that a move to Anfield ‘is in the pipeline’, explaining the ‘agent is working hard on it’.
Coast continued: “The clause is still there to be activated, and while the deal is ‘not confirmed’, the reporter feels it’s all ‘going very quickly now’.
“The RB Leipzig players had the week off last week, which is when there were ‘supposed to have been very close talks and negotiations’, thus suggesting this could be done sooner rather than later.”
Liverpool are adding a fantastic player to their ranks in Konate. Standing at 1.94m (6ft4), there aren’t many players out there are superior to the French defender and he’s easily one of the strongest centre-backs aerially.
In fact, according to Squawka, Konate has a 75% aerial duel success rate which is a lot higher than his teammate, Dayot Upamecano. The RB Leipzig no.5 has won 62% of his aerial duels.
This aerial dominance is what makes Virgil van Dijk the best defender on the planet. In the Premier League, being able to dominate in the air is absolutely vital but it’s no good if it’s not coupled with positional awareness, strong defending in one versus one situations and the ability to play in a high line.
At least that’s the case if you’re a Liverpool defender. The Reds are set to sign Konate from Leipzig and he’s expected to hit the ground running by some supporters but if moves to buy the likes of Andy Robertson are anything to go by, he’ll be slowly introduced at Anfield.
The Reds have been hard at work to complete a move for Konate for the last few months ever since turning up the heat on their interest in the defender back in February when it became their mission to sign him before the end of the season.
A verbal agreement and personal terms followed and now with a deal in place with Leipzig, a €40million move to Liverpool is a matter of time.
