Ian Wright says two Liverpool transfer targets are ‘frightening, terrifying’

Ian Wright says Liverpool’s reported transfer targets Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho are terrifying for opposition defences ahead of the EUROs.

England’s European Championships kicks off later today against Croatia and while Gareth Southgate will likely field a very defensive side, there is no hiding the attacking talent at his disposal.

What has Wright said about them?

From Harry Kane to Jack Grealish, the Three Lions have some of the most exciting players in the world in the squad for this summer’s tournament and Ian Wright has praised three players in particular.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: “When you look at Grealish, Sancho and Bellingham – you have the capability of calling on those three players.

“They are ripping teams apart. Can you imagine those three when they are riffing off each other? What they could do to the opposing team! It’s frightening, it’s terrifying!”

In the past, Eurosport has claimed that Liverpool are monitoring the exciting progress of Jude Bellingham while the Athletic suggests that the Reds are keeping an eye on Jadon Sancho’s situation this week.

Signing the two of them would cost close to £200million but they are the future of English football and with Manchester United moving closer to signing Sancho, the Premier League is set to see what he is truly capable of.

That said, the Red Devils have reportedly offered around £10million less than what BVB are demanding for Sancho so this is by no means a done deal and there is scope for it to fall through.

While it seems hugely unlikely, Liverpool beating Manchester United to Jadon Sancho would break social media. The Englishman got 16 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season and that’s in spite of the fact that he missed 11 games through injury.

The Guardian reports that United have offered Sancho £350,000/week which would see him earn £91million over the course of five years and for that reason, it’s quite easy to understand why Liverpool have taken a step back.

The only player I can imagine Jurgen Klopp is willing to pay that much for is Kylian Mbappe and even then, it would require the German to absolutely shatter his wage structure which has Mohamed Salah, Thiago, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk as the only ones earning over £150,000 per week.

Why do Liverpool need a new forward?

I’d argue they need two. One centre-forward to provide the competition and impact that we once saw from Divock Origi as the Belgian is set to leave the club this summer after a year in which he failed to make any real kind of contribution for Liverpool.

And another versatile forward in the Diogo Jota mould to provide cover for Mohamed Salah and to replace the outgoing Xherdan Shaqiri. As Anfield Central reported on Thursday, he is the subject of major interest.

Salah was the only player that regularly contributed in attack this season and while Mane and Firmino will likely improve with rest and a full pre-season, Klopp needs to ensure that if their levels dip further, he isn’t left hanging in the balance.

Signing Patson Daka and Raphinha would give Liverpool depth in attack that even Man City would not be able to match.
