Liverpool have been backed to sign Chelsea’s former young star as he could become a top-class player in the future.
Chelsea allowed Billy Gilmour to join Brighton on a permanent deal, which did come as a shock to some fans.
The Scottish international has been earmarked to become a top player but has suffered a frustrating period since breaking into the Chelsea team a couple of years ago.
Now at Brighton, long-term the plan could be for Liverpool to sign the former Chelsea player in the hope that he could go on to become a top player, much like Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne did after leaving the club.
Thank you for everything @ChelseaFC. I’ve developed so much here and met people who will be friends for life. I’ve grown from a young boy to a man but I feel now is the time to make the next step in my career. Good luck and all the best! Once a blue, always a blue! 💙👊🏼 pic.twitter.com/12RMoSHFpG

Pat Nevin on Billy Gilmour
Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin spoke on Gilmour’s departure and how, despite his sale, he still has all the tools to become a top player.
“Billy Gilmour is at a crucial point in his career and the move to Brighton is a brilliant one,” Nevin told Grosvenor Sport.
“It’s the right move. Chelsea won’t regret selling him because that’s not the way they think as a club – but they may want to buy him back again.

“Four or five years down the line, I won’t be surprised if he’s playing in the Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea midfield – he’s that technically good.”
Liverpool are already looking to target Brighton’s Moises Caicedo – but Gilmour is a young midfield talent who could be included in their midfield re-build that could take place next year.
Gilmour, 21, has always been rated as a player with high potential and his stock will only rise as a result of Brighton’s style of play and the ability of Graham Potter’s coaching. It looks more like a signing for down the road, rather than next summer.
