Liverpool are still making decisions behind the scenes on whether they will decide to dip into the January transfer market.
The Reds are in a strong position to start the year; they are top of the Premier League and Champions League group phase. Liverpool also have a strong chance of winning all competitions this season, but will have to overcome a 1-0 deficit to Spurs in the second leg of the League Cup.
Arne Slot has suffered a slight setback after forward Diogo Jota has been ruled out for ‘weeks’, as he delivered an update on Liverpool’s injury concerns:
“Maybe Diogo is just a bit earlier than Joe,” Slot said. “And both of them are expected to be back with us in weeks, not in months. But I’ve said many times before that the last stage of rehab is the most difficult one, or the one that can sometimes add a few days or not. Diogo overloaded a certain muscle a bit.”
Jota’s injury problems and Darwin Nunez rumours could open the door for an attacking signing.

Shock transfer clause revealed in Liverpool star’s contract

Outside Arne Slot’s first choice options in attack, Liverpool’s options are relatively underwhelming. However, Darwin Nunez’s brace to win the game at Brentford has provided hope to Reds fans. Federico Chiesa is also another option off the bench, but continues to struggle with fitness issues.
One name that has been linked with a return to the club is Ben Doak. The Middlesbrough loanee is having a fantastic season in the Championship. Doak has two goals and six assists under Michael Carrick, whose side are pushing for a play off place. Carrick recently revealed that Doak has a clause in his loan deal that could see him return to Anfield this month:
“There is a cut-off point,” confirmed Carrick. “There’s something in place that means it’s not to the end of the window with Ben, it’s not something that will run to then.
“It doesn’t go up to that point. A lot of loans have that kind of arrangement in place, and it’s something that is there.”
Could Arne Slot recall Ben Doak?
Liverpool’s alternatives in attack have not really made an impact this season. Slot does not really trust Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota has barely stayed fit and Chiesa is yet to hit his stride. With the Reds boss having seen a bit of Ben Doak in pre-season, it could give the Dutch coach something to think about towards the end of the window. Doak’s versatility in attacking roles could be very useful for Liverpool.
