How Diogo Jota’s return from injury will only strengthen the Liverpool title charge

Darwin Nunez’s struggles have been chronicled in details and Liverpool are desperate to have more options in attack. The Uruguayan has one goal in ten and Arne Slot is keen to have a different player to fall back upon to lead his attack in the coming weeks.

Diogo Jota returned to training earlier this week after recovering from an impact injury he sustained in October. The forward didn’t travel to Spain for the Champions League game against Girona but is in line to get fit soon.

If things go according to plan, the Portuguese is likely to be in the matchday squad for Fulham’s trip to Anfield this Saturday and his return could not come at a better time for the Reds.

Slot was forced to use Luis Diaz as the forward through the middle against Manchester City recently and Nunez’s recent performances have not inspired any confidence that he could do any better in the coming weeks.

Jota will provide the Liverpool manager with one more attacker and once fully fit, one could expect the forward to be in the starting eleven regularly.

Jota will likely replace Nunez in the eleven soon

Nunez has been struggling since the start of the campaign and very early on, it was clear that Slot didn’t have much faith in the £85m man this season.

When Jota was fit at the start of the season, he was preferred over Nunez down the middle despite the Portuguese not being a natural central striker.

Slot preferred what the forward brought to the number 9 role more than what Nunez did and his injury gave the Uruguayan the chance to impress.

Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?

Since Nunez has dropped the ball, it is more or less certain Jota will replace him in the team as soon as his body is up to speed and he is fit enough to start games.

The Liverpool number 9 will likely start against Fulham despite his poor showing at Girona but it could be one of his last appearances in the starting eleven.

Slot has been waiting for Jota and would be delighted to welcome him back in the scheme of things at Anfield as Liverpool prepare for a busy run of games in the next three weeks.
