Fabrizio Romano says that Liverpool are facing issues on two fronts at the moment as they look to sign Saul and extend Jordan Henderson’s contract.
Writing in a column for Bench Warmers, the journalist said: “Liverpool will have to resolve the Jordan Henderson issue because it is real that there is no agreement so far for his new contract.
“Many clubs especially abroad appreciate him, there has been talk of PSG in France but the club still hopes to convince him to renew his contract, while there has been no offer at Atletico Madrid for Saul Niguez.
“Liverpool are among the English clubs that have inquired about Saul’s situation, the player would appreciate an experience in the Premier League but there is no offer because until the swap deal with Griezmann is definitively collapsed, Saul will not fly to England.”
As things stand, I would be surprised to see Liverpool sign Saul but that’s just my pessimism speaking more than anything.
Ibrahima Konate remains the club’s only signing this summer and while he has shown that he is a payer to be excited about, it’s worrying that the Reds have yet to make their second signing, 65 days on.
While Manchester City adding Harry Kane and Jack Grealish would change things, Liverpool have the best starting XI in the Premier League.
Their squad depth, however, could use work.
A new midfielder would be fantastic but a new attacker is arguable the most important signing that Liverpool can make this summer.
It will be interesting to see who Liverpool sign if they do make any signings as Saul will be a pricey one in terms of wages and there aren’t any more obvious attacking options now that Donyell Malen has been snatched up.
