The former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan brought plenty of laughter to the Scottish Open at Renaissance Club on Sunday afternoon.
Strachan was in attendance for the final round of the tournament, watching Tom Kim claim victory over Rory McIlroy and hometown favourite Bob McIntyre.
Kim’s win secured the title at the final tournament ahead of The Open Championship, which gets underway next week.
But it was Strachan’s antics off the course that had golf fans talking long after the final putt dropped.
A clip circulating on TikTok showed Strachan involved in a prank, sitting down in an unsuspecting Rangers supporter’s camping chair while the man went to fetch drinks.
As the punter returned, one of his friends set the scene by saying to Strachan, “put your head back Gordon, there he’s coming.”
Strachan played along perfectly, reclining in the chair and pretending to be asleep beneath his sunglasses as the man approached.
When the Rangers fan tapped him on the shoulder, the ex-Scotland manager quipped: “That sounds like a Rangers supporter there…”
The fan gave as good as he got, firing back: “It is! Because I was polite, and I don’t smell.”
Strachan pushed his luck a little further, pleading: “Are you sure now, because I’m quite auld…” only to be met with a blunt response.
The punter was having none of it, shooting back: “I don’t give a f***, get off my seat!”
When one of the group tried to intervene by pointing out “That’s Gordon Strachan!”, the fan remained completely unmoved.
Without missing a beat, he responded: “I don’t care who he is! That’s my seat!”
The clip quickly spread across social media, with fans from both sides of the Old Firm divide praising the punter for refusing to let even a footballing icon get one over on him.
Strachan, never one to shy away from a moment, appeared to take the whole exchange in good spirits, proving once again that his quick wit extends well beyond the football dugout.
