According to Fabrizio Romano, Virgil van Dijk is not currently engaged in negotiations with any other club regarding a potential exit from Liverpool next year.
The 33-year-old defender is reportedly committed to his role at Anfield under the new management of Arne Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp after his nine-year tenure ended this summer.
He emphasised that van Dijk is concentrating fully on his responsibilities at Liverpool and on building success with Slot and the new coaching staff. Discussions about van Dijk’s future, including potential contract extensions, are expected to take place in the coming weeks and months.
“Nothing will be decided now, nothing is over and nothing has already been extended. So let’s give them time to discuss all these important topics,” the Italian told The Daily Briefing.
“From what I am told, van Dijk is not negotiating with any other club as he is fully focused on Liverpool, full focus on doing something special with the Reds’ new coach and the new management team.
“Then in the next few weeks and months, his representatives will have conversations with Liverpool to try and sort out his future.”
Van Dijk, who joined Liverpool from Southampton in a £75 million transfer in January 2018, is set to enter talks about his contract alongside other key figures like Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom have deals expiring in 2025.
Thank goodness, the international break is over
The recent international break has been marked by a flurry of speculation and rumours, much of it centred on whether van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold might leave Liverpool.
This period of uncertainty has been frustrating for fans and players alike, with van Dijk’s commitment to Liverpool remaining steadfast.
Despite the media’s attempts to stir the pot, van Dijk has given no indication that he wishes to leave.
With the international break now concluded, there is hope that the focus will return to on-field performances rather than off-field rumours.
The club is reportedly planning discussions to address the futures of their key players, which should provide clarity soon.
For now, Liverpool supporters can take solace in the fact that their star defenders are dedicated to the club and will likely channel their energy into helping Liverpool succeed under Slot.
As the season progresses, it’s expected that van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold will let their football do the talking, reducing the impact of media speculation and allowing the team to concentrate on achieving their goals.
