Liverpool went from a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions to two defeats in a row over just four days. A loss against Crystal Palace led to a UEFA Champions League defeat in Turkey.
Galatasaray defeated the Reds 1-0, as the Merseysiders repeated the same mistakes they made following their Palace clash. Oliver Glasner also made sure to teach Liverpool a lesson after defeating them 2-1 at Selhurst Park.
Glasner’s men are the only team who have defeated the Reds twice this season. Out of ten games now, the Merseysiders have won seven.
Virgil van Dijk saw it coming when the skipper was disappointed after facing the Eagles, commenting on the basic mistakes the club made in London.
“It was the basics that we didn’t do well. Sometimes you can have these days. Hopefully, this is the only day this season that we do that. There is a reason they were 17, now 18, games unbeaten.”
Liverpool Galatasaray defeat gives rise to harsher criticism from Jamie Carragher

Former Liverpool defender and 2025 One Club Man winner Jamie Carragher had already criticised the Reds regarding their handling of Florian Wirtz.
Now, after the defeat in Turkey, he is back to clearly point out that he doesn’t see the Reds as a top team and also claimed that Slot’s men are playing basketball.
“I’m not watching a top team. Liverpool aren’t playing football at the moment, they are playing basketball. It is just end-to-end, and I don’t think top teams play like that.”
“I expressed that to the manager early on, he’ll know that a lot better than me. He is obviously a fantastic manager. But right now Liverpool went from, I would call them a workmanlike team last season, and they have sprinkled a little bit of stardust in terms of the transfers that they have brought in.”

Slot’s got problems to fix, says Carragher
Carragher went on to talk about the club’s defensive problems performance-wise and also how he saw this coming. The former defender focused on the occasional faults that are costing them games.
“And they haven’t gained anything going forward, but they have lost a lot defensively. I think for the manager now, last season was such a smooth ride for them; he’s now got to really earn his money. This has been coming. This is not a shock. And the manager needs to fix it”, Carragher told CBS Sports.
