After a tiring week, Liverpool get no rest as the Reds face Southampton tomorrow in an EFL Cup match. The Merseysiders will have the opportunity to directly start from the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, as Arne Slot will be looking forward to any silverware he can acquire.
Last Sunday, Liverpool spent their weekend away at Turf Moor as the Reds were hoping to continue their unbeaten run in the English Premier League.
Hopes grew grim as injury time approached, with the scoreboard reading 0-0. Luckily for Slot, a penalty in the final minutes saved the Dutchman’s unbeaten run.
Mohamed Salah stepped up to the moment and scored one for the club as the Merseysiders barely edged by against the Clarets. The nightmare wasn’t over as another defensive powerhouse awaited their arrival midweek.
Slot’s men faced Atlético de Madrid in their first UEFA Champions League clash of the season. Having started strong, the Reds conceded a two-goal lead as Marcos Llorente scored two back for the Rojiblancos.
Virgil van Dijk proved a saviour as a last-minute header from Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner helped the Merseysiders narrowly escape with three points.
Saturday was another home day as Everton visited the red side of town. The game ended 2-1 with Liverpool successfully holding on to the one-goal lead as David Moyes took another loss at Anfield.

With a tiring week over, Arne Slot still doesn’t have any time to rest as the Reds face Southampton tomorrow. Following the Merseyside Derby, Slot gave away five players who won’t be playing against the Saints.
“The good thing is I do have the options to rotate throughout the week and the ones that played three times 90 are Virgil, Ibou, Mo, Ryan and Dom, the ones that are used to this intensity at this level, and again they showed up really good.”
“I can tell you now you won’t be seeing them on Tuesday. If that’s any help for Southampton, then they will know”, Slot told the press.
The primary defensive pair, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, will be looking forward to some rest after a tiring week. Hence, Joe Gomez is meant to make a start with 18-year-old Italian Giovanni Leoni getting his debut for the English outfit.
Arne Slot has previously called Leoni Premier League-ready. Liverpool signed the Italian with expectations that he would replace Van Dijk in the long term.
