Speaking to the Anfield Watch, Fabrizio Romano said that he expects Liverpool to make a surprise signing in the same manner they did with Diogo Jota.
The Reds began their pre-season preparations on Monday at a training base in Austria and Ibrahima Konate made his first appearance.
The Frenchman officially joined the club on the 1st of July when his RBL contract expired as his Liverpool terms came into effect.
Anfield Central has been close to his move to Merseyside since February when Michael Edwards was instructed to accelerate the club’s interest in him after missing out on Dayot Upamecano.

Liverpool are yet to make their second signing of the summer but talk surrounding a move for Saul Niguez seems to be increasing and yet Fabrizio Romano has hinted that they might go for someone unexpected.
Fabrizio Romano hazards a guess
It wouldn’t be a surprise as Liverpool, under Klopp and Edwards’ charge, are known for operating in the shadows so to speak.
Fabinho and Jota were both signed with very little coverage beforehand and they could be set to do so again if Romano’s best guess is anything to go by.
“Expect them to make some surprise. If you asked me last summer in June or July whether Liverpool will sign Diogo Jota I would never say that was a done deal or close,” the Italian reporter told Anfield Watch.

“I like this style because it’s difficult for journalists, but it’s great for the club and for the strategy. I expect something surprising also this summer from Liverpool.”
Signing a new midfielder is vitally important
While the British press seems to be briefed that Liverpool are not prioritising signing a new midfielder to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, that area of the pitch cannot be overlooked given how important he was to the Reds.
During his time at Anfield, the Dutch international made more appearances for Liverpool than any other player.
After a season in which injuries ravaged Liverpool’s team, it’s vitally important that Klopp avoids making the mistake he did with Dejan Lovren by not finding a suitable replacement.

The situation is made even more serious by the fact that Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all have dreadful injury records.
Upfront, another Diogo Jota type player is needed and if Liverpool can identify someone that can challenge both Roberto Fimino and Mohamed Salah then the Merseysiders will be in good shape going into the new season.
Judging by the photos from Monday’s first training session, Jurgen Klopp seems to be in great spirits following his vacation and that’s more important than any new signings.
