In a rare injury boost, Fabio Carvalho is back in training and will no doubt be ready to play again when the international break ends.
Perhaps even sooner if we see him from the bench tonight against Ajax although it’s more likely he won’t feature even if he’s named in the matchday squad.
All the same, it’s great to have him back.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp revealed that the youngster is back although it does little to alleviate the mounting injuries.
Andy Robertson’s knee injury means the club’s absenteeism has peaked with 10 players ruled out with one injury or another.
Klopp is without key players like Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate while the squad depth is further tested with Calvin Ramsay still out along with Curtis Jones, Caoimhin Kelleher and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
“Craque” Carvalho returning is great news as Liverpool’s midfield has been the hardest hit area of the team but even better news is that Thiago Alcantara is back.
He made a cameo along with Arthur Melo against Napoli in the 4-1 Champions League defeat in Italy last week.
Liverpool are on a mission tonight to set things straight and make positive steps towards regaining their quadruple form from last season although the absence of Sadio Mane remains a massive issue so long as Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are struggling for goals.
Salah has struggled for goals in 2020 although his creativity has increased dramatically in the last 9 months.
But his goals are what Liverpool need the most right now and if he can refind his best form in front of goal, Jurgen Klopp’s team only stands to benefit.
The Reds are in a key period during the season when they can either exacerbate the issues that exist or put down a marker to look back at as a moment where the whole season turned around.
Ajax is key.
