EXCLUSIVE: West Ham approach Liverpool with view to sign 27-year-old

A source close to Anfield Central claims that Liverpool have been approached by West Ham United, with the Hammers interested in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The midfielder returned to fitness in December after missing 113 days due to a knee injury but since then he has been limited to just two starts, coming on from the bench 10 times in all competitions.

While he hasn’t exactly lit the pitch alight during those cameos, Jurgen Klopp remembers his form on the way to the 2017/18 Champions League final and believes he can still be a valuable member of the Liverpool squad.

A source close to Anfield Central states that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at Liverpool depends largely on his desire for regular game time after West Ham approached the Reds regarding signing the Englishman.

The Hammers are looking to capitalise on their fine form this season by making signings they feel can strengthen them ahead of the 2021/22 campaign which could see them in the Champions League.

David Moyes’ side is just two points off the top four and if they are involved in Europe’s elite competition next season, they will need to add quality and believe Oxlade-Chamberlain fits the bill.

Liverpool want to keep him but his future with the Reds rests largely on his desire to play regularly.

He will not be a starter next season and so if he wants to move on in a bid to increase his minutes, Klopp will not stop him.

The hope is that Oxlade-Chamberlain wants to stay at Liverpool and help challenge for the Premier League again next season as the coaching staff at Kirkby rate the 27-year-old and want him to keep the likes of Thiago on their toes.
