€70m + €10m ‘deal is underway’ to bring 24-year-old to Anfield

Luis Diaz

Liverpool’s deal to bring Luis Diaz to Anfield is ‘underway’, according to A Bola, but there could be a delay due to the player’s agent not allowing ‘interference’.

The Colombian is an electric player, capable of flying past defenders and scoring screamers not to mention he has shown remarkable tactical understanding compared to his Porto teammates.

It’s not a surprise that he has been heavily linked with a move away from Liga Nos and the 24-year-old would be well-suited to Jurgen Klopp’s high-octane, counter-pressing style of play.

Reports over the last few days have heavily linked the Reds with a move for Diaz and now A Bola, via Sport Witness, claims that a ‘deal is underway’ to bring him to Anfield this month to help the Reds cope with their selection crisis.

Despite the player having an €80million release clause in his Porto contract, Liverpool are ‘willing to offer €70m fixed for the player’s transfer, to which €10m must be added in bonuses attainable by the Colombian’.

Porto must still accept the offer and so must Diaz himself but if all parties are in agreement then things could progress quite quickly for Klopp and his side.

However, while the report says a ‘deal is underway’, the player’s representative, Carlos Van Strahalen could cause a delay as he ‘isn’t allowing interference’ from other parties in the matter, ‘and there are many who want to intervene between the two in order to pocket a portion of the commission’.

Liverpool’s season and their chances of winning silverware this season may well depend on their ability to bring Diaz or a similarly talented winger in as they are stretched too thin this season.

Between injuries to Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, a COVID-19 positive test for Roberto Firmino and Sadio and Mohamed Salah’s attendance at AFCON in Cameroon, Klopp’s options in attack are virtually non-existent right now.
